Small Steps

Sachar, Louis. Small Steps. NY: Delacorte Press, 2006. 257 pages. (Fiction)

The book I read was called Small Steps and was written by Louis Sachar who also wrote Holes, a fantastic bestseller. This book is about Armpit or Theodore Johnson after Camp Green Lake correctional facilities has closed down. Armpit’s best friend, X-Ray who he had met at Green Lake, and a young girl named Ginny who lived next door to Armpit are in the story. The other main character in this book is Kaira DeLeon who is a pop star. This great book takes place in the city of Huston, Texas. The big problem is that Armpit and X-Ray have purchased a bunch of tickets to Kaira’s concert then sold them all to people for $270. But Armpit saves two for him and Ginny to go together. When they arrive, they find out that their tickets are fake! I would recommend this book to both teachers and students because of its many good messages.
