Holes

Sachar, Lois. Holes. NY: Scholastic Inc, 1997. 233 pages. (Fiction / Humor)

Holes is a story about an unlucky corpulent boy named Stanley Yelnants. His whole family was unlucky, and the reason was that his great grandfather didn’t keep a deal to a magical lady named Madam Zerony, so she cursed his whole family. Now, you know Stanley, the one I was talking about, well he was bullied not only by kids, but also by the teachers. He had a miserable life. His dad was an unsuccessful inventor, and his latest invention that he was working on was a machine that made shoes not smell bad any more. So one day when Stanley was on his way home from school, shoes seemed to drop out of the sky, so he thought it was a miracle to help his dad with his invention. As he was running home to show his dad, a cop arrested him. The cop arrested him because the shoes were stolen from an orphanage. He got sent to court, and they give him an option ether go to juvenile hall or go to a place called Camp Green Lake. Obviously he picks Camp Green Lake, but when he got there, it turned out there was no lake, not even a pond just desert. The book is about the adventure of Kissen Kate Blancet and possible way to reverse his family’s bad luck. You know those books that keep you glued to the page this was on of those books. I loved this book! It kept me glued to the pages the whole time whether it be the plot or just a small complication. I recommend it to any body who likes to read great books.
