Extras

Westerfeld, Scott. Extras. NY: Simon Pulse, 2007. 417 pages. (Sci-Fi Series)

The book I chose is Extras, by Scott Westerfeld. The main characters in the book are Aya Fuse, her brother, Hiro, Hiro’s friend, Ren, Frizz, and Tally Youngblood. The story takes place in Japan, and later in the book, Singapore. After the mind rain, (or the world being cured of lesions put in their brains by a surgery teenagers get when they turn 16), the world is trying to piece itself back together. Where the main character, Aya, lives everything is based on fame. Aya’s number of fame isextremely high; she’s an Extra, a nobody. While searching for a way to get fame, she comes across a group of girls called the Sly Girls who do crazy stunts during the night without getting caught. When Aya tells the city what the Sly Girls do and what they discovered, she instantly becomes in danger of being killed by a bunch of freaks behind the sly girls’ discovery. I would highly recommend this book because it leaves you in suspense to read the next chapter. It also has some comedy. You also do not have to read the first three books to understand this book.
