The Iron King

Kagawa, Julie. The Iron King. Ontario: Harlequin Teen, 2010. 363 pages. (Fantasy)

Meghan Chase is your average outsider. Living in the middle of the wilderness and showing up to school with overalls every day, she doesn’t have many friends. She has one, to be precise. Robbie Goodfell has been her best friend ever since she and her family moved to that area. When things start getting strange, Meghan realizes how little she knows about him, her best friend. She’s never been to his house, she’s never met his family, and when her brother turns wild and the most popular girl in school starts oinking, Meghan turns to Robbie for answers. The truth she’s about to find out is out of this world- literally. She’s is forced to leave behind all she’s ever known to join a world of fairies, glamour, binding oaths, and wicked rulers. The task starts out as finding her brother and ends up as killing a ruler before they kill her. Will she succeed?

Whoa! I don’t know what to say! I really enjoyed this book, it’s characters where very realistic and the plot was great! I liked how there where many different conflicts in this book, and many things happening behind the scenes that you don’t find out about until later. The two supporting characters where each so different and intriguing that they pulled me deeper and deeper into the plot, ever more so than the main character herself. This is an extraordinary book and I highly recommend it to fantasy lovers. And if you love this book and are aching for more, read the next book The Iron Daughter.

Uglies

Westerfeld, Scott. Uglies. New York City: Simon and Schuster Children’s Publishing Division, 2005. 425 pages. (Sci-Fi)

Look pretty or not?
Tally asks.
Have a brain or not?

New pretty town, great.
Other choice?
The outdoors, the Smoke.

Wild, crazy...why? Freedom
Not too hard.
Follows friend on chase.

Specials will come.
Bonds will be tested.
Brains will fry.

Who will die?
Will the Smoke really croak?
Read and see.

The book Uglies is a fast but good read. It keeps you turning the pages all the way through. I would recommend this book to almost anyone. Uglies is about a girl Tally who meets a new friend, Shay, after her old friend Perris is turned pretty. All Tally ever wanted was to be pretty until she met Shay. Shay did not want to be pretty, instead she wanted to go and live in the “Smoke” where no one is pretty, which means no one is ugly. Tally has to face Specials and decide who she is fighting for. Will Tally become pretty, will the Specials find the Smoke, will Tally and Shay manage to stay friends after the betrayal? Read Uglies to find out.

Guys Write For Guys Read

Scieszka, Jon. Guys Write For Guys Read. NY: Penguin Group, 2008. 272 pages. (General Fiction/Non-Fiction)

Guys Write For Guys Read
Is a book you must read

About boys lives
How they live
The mistakes they’ve made

Authors
Illustrators
Cartoons and comics
It has them all

Many stories
From many authors
From screw-ups to true Genius

Jon Scieska
And the gang
Will not let you down

I liked this book because of the different stories, but some were kind of boring. Most of the book was great, but there were points that were boring and uninteresting. There is no plot-line, just a bunch of stories put together, but it was fun to read all the different stories about different people. I liked this book and recommend it to anybody that wants to read an interesting book.

Ender's Game is one of the best books I've ever read! The beginning is sketchy and then as you read on it explains everything in bits and pieces so by the end of the book you completely understand everything you read! Ender's Game is a good example of how enemy's, sometimes, aren't so different after all and if you are the bigger person and learn to set aside differences and step up to the plate then you will find that you can live your life to the fullest!

In the other world with her she kidnaps Coraline’s parents leaving her with no other place to go. At first

Nothing goes wrong but as days go by Coraline finds that everything is wrong! She finds

Everything is the opposite in this world and she misses her parents but, where are they?! Will Coraline find them or will she be stuck in this strange other world with the Other Mother forever?

I liked this book and would recommend it to anyone because it’s very creative and catchy. After I started reading it I didn’t want it to end. I think it’s something anyone can and should read. It’s a little creepy and dark but I think that’s the best part. Still it wouldn’t be too scary for someone else.

When You Reach Me

Stead, Rebecca. When You Reach Me. New York: Wendy Lamb Books. 2009. 197 pages. (Science fiction, mystery fiction)

A young and innocent sixth grader, Miranda walks home from school with her best friend Sal. They pass by a garage and out comes a group of boys. Marcus, one of those boys walks toward them and gives Sal a good hard punch for absolutely no reason. After that weird things happen. The spare key to her Miranda’s mom’s apartment is gone and she keeps finding notes that say, “I am coming to save your friends life and my own but first you must write me a letter.” Miranda soon realizes that it’s up to her to save someone’s life. If only she had written sooner.

When You Reach Me is a really good book. I’m not really big on mysteries, but it was just really great. The end is the best part when things unravel and you find yourself going, “Ohhh, I see.” The way the author sets up the story is totally cool. I loved this book, and I think anyone should read it.
