Angels & Demons

Brown, Dan. Angels & Demons. New York: Washington Square Press, 2000. 477 pages. (Mystery)

The church has an enemy that goes way back. The Illuminati. They have a mission that no one will ever forget. Ever. Follow Robert Langdon and Vittoria Vetra as they fly all across Rome in a desperate mission to save lives… and not just anyone’s lives. They find dead body after dead body, symbol after symbol. Will they find any success? And will they even make it out alive together???

I really liked this book. I may have liked The DaVinci Code better (which was written by the same author), but this was still a really good book. The thing about this book was that it took a while to get to the good part whereas The DaVinci Code got really good really fast. Don’t give up on this book though, it’s worth the long buildup to the climax, which lasts until the end. Dan Brown is an incredible author, and his books deserve to be read!

The Giver

Lowry, Lois. The Giver. NY: Random House, 1993. 179 pages. (Sci-Fi Series)

Ever wondered what life would be like if everyone was the same? Or if there was no color? How about no, pain, pride or love? Is that how you would like to live? What if you knew no different? Welcome to Jonas’s world. In Jonas’s Community, everyone lives with a family unit and is given an assignment at their Ceremony of Twelve. One by one Jonas sits in his seat watching his group mates get called to the stage and for once he is singled out from everyone. When Jonas’s number is skipped, everyone knows something is wrong. All were dreading the worst, but it seems Jonas will be assigned the most honorable job in the Community, The Receiver. Knowing nothing about his job, Jonas is eager to start. When Jonas begins receiving memories that show life before the Community was ever thought of, he knows that there is a better way to live. He is determined to find that place and bring back the normal and individual life that everyone deserves to live. Will Jonas ever fulfill his dream? More importantly, will Jonas ever find the answers that he longs for?

The Giver is definitely a good read! The beginning may be a little slow, but once you get into the first few chapters (which doesn’t take very long) you will realize that it really is a good book! There are some parts where you don’t want to keep reading and then other parts that you won’t want to put the book down, and they pretty well balance each other out making the book better to read!
