Eagle Strike

Horowitz, Anthony. Eagle Strike. New York: Philomel Books, 2004. 256 Pages. (Adventure Series)

Damien Cray is a major pop singer who everybody in the world loves because he has donated millions to charity. What many people don’t know about him is that he has planned to take out any major drug supply countries; he thinks this will make him more popular for stopping drug trade. He plans to do this using American Nuclear Bombs.

Sabina Pleasure is Alex Riders girlfriend who he met at Wimbledon. Sabina’s father is a journalist who is writing a story on Damien Cray But during his writing his house blows up and he is almost killed.

Alex Rider is a child spy for MI6 which is a British intelligence agency. Alex wants to find out why Mr. Pleasure was attempted to be assassinated.

Yassen Gregorvich is a hired Russian killer who was hired by Damien Cray to help with Eagle Strike.

I selected the two books before the series and thought that they were good so I read this one and it was just as good.

I Want To Live

McDaniel, Lurlene. I Want To Live. Ohio: Darby Creek, 1987. 126 pages. (Realistic Fiction Series)

The book I choose to read was I Want to Live. Dawn one of the main characters has cancer and is trying to live an ordinary life but cant because of her cancer. Dawn’s family is a big part of this book. They support her in every choice that she has to make in her life also the nursing staff is a real comfort for dawn when her family is not there. This story takes place in and out of the hospital. Dawn faces the problem of being a kid and the sick kid that no one wants to hang out with or be near. She solves this problem by making friends that she can feel comfortable around but when that happened dawn only got miserable. Sandy her best friend that she had mad had cancer like her too and it took the toll on sandy and she died. This book ends in a very different way sense it’s a series they have you hanging by a thread when you end so you have to get the next book out to read and find out what happens. I would recommend this book because it has a very strong sense of what other kids go through that have cancer and it gives a feeling of shock when you hear that people your own age are dying and you are still living. When I got to the part where dawn was almost about to dye I was almost in tears listening to her brother crying, screaming, and punching the wall trying to get his anger out about the feelings that he had in his chest fir what dawn was going through. Remember all kids are alike even if they do have cancer they still want to be treated the same way as healthy kids. That is what I have learned from reading this series of books.

Koran, Gordon. Kidnapped: The Abduction. Scholastic Inc, May 2006, 144 pages. (Thriller Series)

Once there was a little girl whose name rhymes with egg.
Has a big problem coming this way,
By the way her name is Meg

Her parents got accused of murder
But they didn’t really do it

Spent time in jail
Nothing really to it

Now they're out
Everyone calls them traitors

Only people that hang out
Are baiters
Until one day
Meg got kidnapped and
People are starting to care

I would recommend this book to like anyone as especially kids like through the age of 9-12, because it’s really kewl and it will have you at the edge of your seats for practically the whole book. I would share this with my parents because it’s about kidnapping so yea… I would read another book by this author and actually I am going to this is the 2nd one I have read so far. One of my favorite scenes is like the third or second time that she tries to escape she is so close she runs and keeps running trying to find some help but she is like in the middle of no where and she finally hers a car around the corner and foot steps behind her then she looks back it was them so she runs towards the car and that was them also…… to read the rest you will have to read the book. If I had to give this book a 1 word label it would be AWESOME. This book is kewl, action packed, sort of mysterious, gives you butterflies in your stomach.

This story takes place underground in San Francisco. The problem they face is they are with their mom on a mission but their dad is trying to find them. They solve the problem by sneaking around fast but quietly. One interesting event is their dad has an assistant with him and they know her very well. I selected this book because I have read all the other books in this series. I enjoyed this book because you would never believe what will happen.

The River

Paulsen, Gary. The River, NY: Dell, 1991. 137 pages. (Survival Series / Poem Review)

Brian Robison
Is back in the woods again
Derek is with him

They land in the woods
Then again it’s going well
Then three days out good

Is hit by lighting
In need of medical help
Brian builds a raft

Tree hits him dead on
He is put in a coma
Will be close to death

Miles down the stream
The time is running out fast
Now will he make it?

The book The River I think is a great squeal to the book Hatchet because it continues at a great point after the Hatchet ended and continues it. The book is shorter then Hatchet but I think it was just as good. If I had to give it a score one though ten, I would give it an eight.

Far North

Hobbs, Will. Far North. New York: Harper Trophy, 2004. 278 pages. (Adventure / Survival)

Gabriel has finished high school in Texas while living with his grandparents. Now that Gabe is out of high school, he is moving to the North West Territories in Canada to be with his father. His father is now working on an oil rig in the cold waters of the north. Meanwhile, Gabe is attending a college in Yellow Knife. When Gabe is not in school, he and his father are able to spend time together. On one weekend Gabe, his friend Raymond, and an elder from the same town as Raymond, named Johnny Raven, decide to take a sight seeing tour from a plane, down on the Nahanni River.

When the planes engine fails on the river, with the plane rushing towards the falls, Gabe, Raymond, and Johnny make it safely to shore with only a little supplies. However, the plane and the pilot get swept swiftly down over the falls. From then on Gabe, Raymond, and Johnny Raven are forced to get by with minimal supplies. They are about to face the brutal subzero winter that is to come. All three have to work hard to stay warm and get enough to eat, while waiting to be rescued.

I believe Will Hobbs has done a great job with this book. He is an award winning author which can include many intricate details into this book. Most of all I liked reading about the north and how he describes it. I also liked reading about all the struggles that Gabe, Raymond, and Johnny go through. I really think this is a great book for anyone that wanted to read a thrilling novel on the wilderness.

Rain came down all night.
Morning light came and with it
A special feeling.

Under the pressure.
"What will we do now mom?"

"I don’t know, honey.
Dying and grieving.
Take the chance, just let go."

"I can't it’s too hard.
How can I live now?"

"It’s all a part of the life.
Come, don’t be sad."

"Living is harder.
The weeks ahead will be tough.
We will get through it."

All a part of girl hearts.

This book is packed with a roller coaster of emotion. The mother whose name is Jane is caught with a heart attack at 29. Her daughter Sarabeth is over whelmed with what has happened to her mother. Skipping school just to go see her doesn’t pay off in the long haul. After all the chaos in that matter, her mother dies. Read the book Girl hearts to see what has happened to Sarabeth after her mother’s death and the other mischief that she gets in. It would lead to a good sequel also to see what will come again.

Is it intense and passionate enough to make you cry?
Love between Edward and Bella will make you say wow.

Good book

The most thought put into writing the book

I would recommend this book this book to any teenager looking for a book with love, intensity, compassion, and a little bit of drama in it. I would share this book with my parents because I think that they might enjoy reading what a lot of other teenagers are reading. Yes I would read another book by this author because Stephanie Myer is a fantastic book writer and she makes her stories interesting. I think the greatest scene from this story was when Edward and Bella met and another scene was when Edward jumped in front of a speeding car to save Bella’s life. One word label to describe Twilight would be Intense. I would describe this novel as intense, compassionate, and full of drama.

LOSER

Spinelli, Jerry. LOSER. New York: Harper Collins, 2003. 218 pages. (Humor/Fiction)

The main character in my story is a kid named Donald Zinkoff. This story takes place at John W. Satterfield Elementary. The problem in this story is that Zinkoff is never a winner, and an example of him never being a winner is when he was in fourth grade at the field days. How he wasn’t a winner was that in the final race of the field days he was the last leg to run, and he was the first one to start running toward the finish line but he ended coming in dead last. How he goes about solving this problem is not by becoming a winner but never losing hope in himself, and by trying new things no matter if he losses or not.

How I felt about this book was I thought that it was very well written and explained. The character that I think is most like me in this book is Zinkoff. I think this because in one of the chapters Zinkoff had gotten sugary and had to stay home for three weeks and he wasn’t allowed out of the house. He is like me because while he was in the house he got very bored and wanted to go outside and that is the same way I would feel if I was cooped up inside of the house for three weeks. Also there are many other books written by Jerry Spinelli and I would most defiantly read another book by this author because I really enjoyed reading Loser so I think I will enjoy others by him.

The Turkey That Ate My Father

Marney, Dean. The Turkey That Ate My Father. NY: Broadway, 1995. 115 pages. (Humor)

The book is about a little girl about ten years old, her father, and her brother Booker. It all started when Booker wanted a stupid drum stick and he couldn’t have it, so then he grabbed it and got it anyway. After that weird things started to happen- again. It seems like every holiday that Elizabeth’s family is involved in, things go weird. One day Elizabeth’s dad goes missing. It was on Thanksgiving and they think that the giant turkey in their living room might have something to do with it. So, did the turkey eat their father or not? It’s a mystery.

I think that Booker is like my three year old sister  because if she doesn’t get what she wants, she will either take it or just cry until she gets it. I would recommend this book to a younger kid because its all fiction and it’s a mystery book . The scene that had the greatest impact on me as a reader was when the turkey that was giant was standing in the living room and that’s when their dad went missing. Once again I would recommend this book to younger children.

Horowitz, Anthony. Stormbreaker. New York: Penguin Putnum Inc, 2002. 192 pages. (Adventure Series)

There are two very important characters in my book. There is a 14 year old boy named Alex Rider, this boy has a uncle Ian Rider who was a secret spy. When on a mission he was killed by a hired agent. The agency that his uncle worked for now wanted to have Alex as a spy for a special mission. Alex has almost no choice but to say yes, the company that he is now working for is very powerful and can have the only person close to him (his maid Jackie) not thrown out and sent back to America for and expired visa. The other main character is Herod Sayle; he is an adopted boy from Egypt who grew up in England. Herod has created a new special computer that he has offered to given to every school in England for free. M16 the spy agency has a bad felling so they send Ian andAlex Rider.
The reason I chose this book was that I heard it was good and I thought it sounded good. A friend had told me that the book was very good. When I read the back it seemed like an action book and I like that so that’s why I chose.

The Titan’s Curse

Riordan, Rick. The Titan’s Curse. New York: Miramax Books, 2007. 312 pages. (Fantasy Series)

The main characters in The Titan’s Curse are: Percy, Grover, Zoe, Bianca, and Thalia. This story takes place all across the United States. The main problem that these people faced was that Annabeth, Percy’s friend, was missing, because she was kidnapped by a monster. How the main characters solved this problem was by going all the way across the country to San Francisco to search for her, and found her on top of a mountain. Another interesting thing that happens in this novel is: some sea animal called an Ophiotauras, who Percy named Bessie, has the power to destroy the gods.
This book is the third book in the series of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. It is followed by The Lightning Thief and The Sea Of Monsters. Nothing in the book, or any in the series, has ever happened to me. I definitely recommend this book for readers who like fantasy, because it is very strange, and very exciting. I selected this because I liked the first two books in the series, and I thought I would like this one too. {And I did.} I would read any book by this author, since he has a very good imagination. If I had to give this book a one word label, I would say fantastic. I like fantasy, and it is a very good fantasy book.
