Lupica, Mike. Travel Team. NY: Penguin Group, 2004. 274 Pages. (Sports Fiction)
Danny Walker is a young boy in seventh grade. He lives with his mom in Middletown, New York. His mom and his dad (a former NBA player) have been divorced for much of his life. Danny’s greatest passion is basketball, however, he was cut from the local travel team because he was too small for his age. When his dad, Richie Walker, comes to visit, he starts up another travel team for all the players that were told they were not good enough, or too small. Danny hopes to take his team all the way to the championships, just like his father had done with his team. Danny and his team are ready to prove that you have to look for the love of the game in the players and not just skill.

This book tells a lot about basketball and real life experiences. It is a GREAT book! The book tells so much of the struggles that the players face and every aspect of the game. Every part of it is exciting and tear-jerking. This book is a New York Times #1 best seller. If you like this book, you will love its sequel, Summer Ball. It is also a wonderful book, telling about playing basketball at a summer camp far away from home.
