Barlow, Steven. My Brushes with Death and Other Outdoor Blunders. Homer, NY: Briar Hill Books, 2007. 218 Pages. (Non-Fiction / Humor/ Short Stories)
The book I read this month is called My Brushes with Death and Other Outdoor Blunders, by Steven Barlow. This book is a collection of magazine columns published in New York (or any other state) Game and Fish. So, it is basically a collection of 50 short stories. The topics range from hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, boating , and generally being outdoors. The stories take place outdoors, and they are involved with the topics above. During the book, the Barlow family faces many challenges such as getting lost, stuck on an island, losing survival necessities on trips, and many other hilarious traumas.
I think that any reader can relate well to the characters and events because they happen with everyday families. A good trait that this book has is that you can just open it up to a story for a quick snicker if you don’t want to sit down and read the whole thing. Be prepared to laugh. I would recommend this book to anyone that asked because it is an enjoyable book.
