Lily’s Crossing

Giff Reilly, Patricia. Lily’s Crossing. NY: Yearling Books, 1999. 208 pages. (Historical Fiction)

In this story the main characters are Lily, Albert, Grandma, and Dad. The story takes place on a beach in Rockaway during World War II. Lily faces a problem of letting her friend go to Michigan for her father’s work. Lily also faces the problem of letting her dad go to fight in the war in France. Also, Albert, Lily’s new friend, has left his sick sister in Europe. Lily and Albert solve their problems by trying to sail to France in a rowboat. Since that doesn’t workout, they wait for the war to end and send letters to the family members. If I were to describe this book in ten words it would be interesting and kind of boring and dry because there’s nothing to keep you reading.
