Anderson, Laurie, Halse. {Catalyst. New York: Penguin Books, 2002. 232 pages. (General Fiction)

Meet Teri and Kate, two people who do not like each other and do not know that one day they might be living together and become friends. If you like realistic books, than this is the one for you. What happens in this book happens to a lot of people. One day, it could be you. Kate lived with her dad, and brother. Her mom died when she was young. Kate’s brother’s name is Toby. Also, Kate’s dad is a minister. Kate is almost done with school and is planning to go to MIT, a college she has been hoping to get into for a long time. Will she get in? Read the book to find out. Now, on to Teri, the school bully. Who lived up the hill from Kate’s in an old barn for a house with her mom and her little brother, Mikey. One day Teri’s house gets blown down by a wind storm and Kate’s dad had to help them. So Teri and her family move in to Kate’s house. When Kate’s dad gets people together to make Teri and her family a new house, he is almost never home. When the house is finished, they all celebrate outside with Mikey alone in his big boy room. Teri goes inside to check on him and screams: Mikey is found on the floor, black all over, with the outlet burning. Will Mikey survive? Read this book and find out. I recommend this book to all my friends because it is about love, life, and adventure. This book really makes you think about life and what can and will happen to you or people around you. Hope you read this book and like it as much as I did.
